North Carolina

Record (9-5)

FEI offense ranking- No. 17

FEI defense ranking- No. 116

FEI overall ranking- No. 61

If any team benefitted from a soft schedule in 2022, it was North Carolina. One of the only reasons I have them this high is because of quarterback Drake Maye. I too, believe his numbers had some inflation going on with the weak competition he played against, but he’s clearly a talented player who’ll be even better with last year’s experience under his belt.

The defense can’t be any worse than it was last year, and North Carolina has used the transfer portal to bring in some talented guys. FSU linebacker Amari Gainer is among them. However, UNC will have a new offensive coordinator, and Maye will be without two of his favorite targets Josh Downs and Antoine Green.

They will begin the season against South Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Rivalry Classic and will have several winnable games until they play Duke, Clemson, and NC State to close out the regular season.
