FSU football has one defensive back prospect committed to their 2024 recruiting class in three-star safety CJ Heard from Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia.

However, defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. has his sights set on some very highly-touted prospects at the position to finish up the recruiting class.

One defensive back at the top of the recruiting board is five-star cornerback target Charles Lester III from Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida.

Lester III announced that he will officially visit Florida State from June 16-18. Three-star athlete Ricky Knight III and three-star DL Alex January plan to officially visit that weekend as well.

This will be Lester’s eighth visit to Tallahassee since being offered by the Seminoles on January 3, 2022. The talented cornerback prospect has made a name for himself as a defender at Riverview High School, where he recorded five interceptions last season. He also played at the wide receiver position, catching 34 passes for 354 yards and four touchdowns.

The Seminoles are the front runner in his recruitment, with three crystal ball predictions favoring Florida State. However, Lester III indicated on his Twitter account that he also has official visits scheduled for Alabama (June 2-4), Colorado (June 9-11), Florida State (June 16-18), and Georgia (June 23-25). Thankfully, Ohio State now seems to be officially out of his recruitment.

I realize that everyone looks at the Colorado visit and starts to worry, given what head football coach Deion Sanders did to the program when five-star cornerback Travis Hunter flipped his commitment from Florida State to Jackson State on Signing Day.

However, at this time, the visit with the Buffaloes looks like it is simply a courtesy visit. As for Georgia getting the last scheduled official visit, it could be worrisome given the Bulldogs’ recent level of success on the field and their NFL production.

However, the Seminoles have done a tremendous job recruiting Lester III and have had a long-standing relationship with the coveted recruit.
