FSU football put a lot of folks on notice Wednesday afternoon when they grabbed Keon Coleman from the transfer portal.
Coleman was one of the top three players available in the portal and was added to FSU’s already-stacked transfer portal class. Coleman is the 10th transfer added since the 2022 season concluded and the eighth blue-chip for an 80 percent blue-chip ratio from the transfer portal.
The perception for FSU football already had them as one of the top teams going into 2023. However, this recent addition only reiterates that stance.
The reaction to Coleman’s commitment to FSU sent social media into a frenzy:

Trey Benson knows Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson out wide will make his job much easier behind a better offensive line.

I keep thinking about two things of late. Just how quickly Mike Norvell has changed the perception of FSU football. Literally, this time last year folks were still talking about losing to Jacksonville State and Norvell only winning three games during the COVID year.
Now, oddsmakers have the Noles as the betting favorites to win the ACC in 2023. They are among the betting favorites to make the College Football Playoffs. The receiver unit was the worst in the ACC in 2021 and became one of the best in 2022.
It will be the best unit in the ACC and arguably one of the best in the nation with the Coleman addition. The way Mike Norvell has used the transfer portal to fill needs and turn this program around needs to be a case study somewhere.
Not only has he filled needs, but he’s also done it with guys that have not been heralded at their previous stops. That’s not the case with Coleman, and I can’t wait to see this offense in 2023.
