FSU football looks to narrow down its defensive back recruiting board. Class of 2024 four-star cornerback target Wardell Mack from John Ehret High School in Marrero, Louisiana, will officially visit Florida State from June 2-4.

The 5’11”, 170-pound defensive back has visited FSU regularly for someone from Louisiana. Mack received his offer from FSU back on April 19, 2022. He recently unofficially visited Florida State on April 1, 2023.

Given that he is a Louisiana native, his lead recruiter is running backs coach and recruiting coordinator, David Johnson.

Johnson was the head football coach at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, Louisiana from 2009-2011. Most notably, he was responsible for the development of defensive back Tyrann Mathieu and running back Leonard Fournette.

In terms of the recruitment with Mack, FSU football does not have any cornerbacks committed to their 2024 recruiting class. The only defensive back in the fold is three-star safety CJ Heard from Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Seminoles are aggressively recruiting cornerback prospects in this recruiting cycle, such as five-star Ellis Robinson IV (Georgia commit), five-star Charles Lester III, four-star Jamari Howard (recently de-committed from Michigan State), four-star Jalewis Solomon, four-star Cai Bates, four-star Jameer Grimsley, three-star Ricky Knight III, three-star Kevin Levy, three-star Amare Sanders, and three-star Romanas Frédérique Jr.

Five-star Charles Lester III from Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida, remains the top cornerback prospect on their recruiting board. However, the Seminoles would be open to acquiring at least four defensive backs in their recruiting class.

Both veterans Renardo Green and Jarrian Jones will be redshirt seniors this upcoming season, and the Seminoles will have to replace their production. If FSU can get both Lester III and Mack in the fold, it could give opposing offenses problems in the future. Stay tuned to Chopchat for more recruiting news and analysis.
