FSU football coaches extended an offer Tuesday night to Class of 2023 JUCO safety Ashlynd Barker from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The talented defensive back was originally from Columbus, Georgia, and played football at Northside High School. Barker is listed at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds. He is considered a lengthy safety who has a knack for locating the football and possesses the ability to come downhill to help in run support. Plus he has the versatility to play both cornerback and safety if needed.

Below is his Hudl highlights from his senior season at Northside High School in 2022.

An assistant coach at Northside High School had glowing remarks about Barker where he stated that he played on a 1-9 football team as a high school sophomore, had a new head football coach during his junior season, couldn’t play his junior season of high school due to COVID-19 restrictions, portal/scholarship availability led to schools telling him that they were full.

Barker’s determination to get to his ultimate goal in life no matter the circumstance is inspiring, especially considering that he worked hard to get to receive the offer from FSU football.

Ball State and Jacksonville State are two teams that have also extended offers to him. He has only officially visited the Cardinals on March 17, 2023. However, that is about to change as Barker has announced via his Twitter account that he will officially visit the Seminoles from May 12-14.

This is absolutely massive for FSU football as they are looking to replenish quality depth at the safety position after losing Sidney Williams, Travis Jay, and Omarion Cooper to the transfer portal this offseason.

It is important to note that the Seminoles will host an important transfer at the safety position this weekend in UAB redshirt senior Jaylen Key.
