Linebacker

Florida State’s defense has the potential to be very good this season. That is partly because veteran linebackers Tatum Bethune and Kalen DeLoach are returning to Tallahassee for their senior seasons.

Bethune (84 total tackles) and DeLoach (65 total tackles) were the second and third-leading tacklers on the team from a season ago. Redshirt junior DJ Lundy has seemingly improved each and every season (48 total tackles in 2022) and has transformed his body, where he lists at 232 pounds on the official roster.

The trio of Bethune, DeLoach, and Lundy have the potential to be something very scary for opposing offenses. However, the proven depth, lacks as the Seminoles only have seven scholarship linebackers at this time.

Redshirt senior linebacker Brendan Gant decided it would be best to enter the transfer portal and pursue other opportunities. He eventually committed to Colorado, just like defensive end Derrick McLendon II.

Redshirt junior Stephen Dix Jr also announced that he entered the transfer portal. Luckily, Florida State added three linebacker prospects from the 2023 recruiting cycle in Blake Nichelson, DeMarco Ward, and Dylan Brown-Turner.

They also have redshirt freshman Omar Graham Jr. But can the Seminoles rely on one of those four linebackers to place in their rotation?
