FSU football: 10 players to watch for in the 2023 spring showcase
By Kelvin Hunt
Defense
Darrell Jackson-The addition of Jackson from the transfer portal was huge since the defensive tackle position lacked depth and cost the Noles when Fabien Lovett went down with an injury. Jackson has had good spring and I hope to see him flash Saturday and impact things at the line of scrimmage.
Gilbert Edmond-The addition of Edmond from the transfer portal was much-needed to add depth at defensive end. His play may have contributed to Derrick McLendon entering the transfer portal. I’m looking to see him flash and show the ability to get to the quarterback and playing solid against the run.
Fentrell Cypress-Cypress was an All-ACC selection at Virginia last year and will need to bring that same level of play to help improve the FSU secondary over last year. He’s come on late in spring and I’m curious to see how he looks in game action. He could be one of the most important pieces for Adam Fuller’s defense in 2023.
Omarion Cooper-The former standout cornerback had an injured filled 2022 and has made the transition to safety. Cooper has acclimated well to the change, but I need to see him in action.
Azareye’h Thomas-Thomas is one of my favorite signees from the 2022 class. He shined last spring and finished the 2022 season strong, but seems to have been non-existent this spring.
