FSU football finished the 2022 season ranked No. 11 with a 10-3 record. Teams change a lot year over year, but the 2023 version of FSU will feature many of the same faces that helped them reach 10 wins for the first time since 2016.

One of the most important faces is quarterback Jordan Travis, who performed near elite levels for much of the 2022 season, and many expect that to continue in 2023 with a better offensive line and another year in Mike Norvell’s offensive system.

That, along with arguably the best transfer portal class, of which all already enrolled at FSU and experienced spring camp, has boosted the overall talent on the roster.

When you combine those factors with FSU’s 2023 schedule that features less talented teams and several teams breaking in new quarterbacks or offensive coordinators? The expectations in Tallahassee are sky-high going into 2023.

The Noles project as the No. 7 team nationally in the Projected AP Top Ten for 2023:

I think the expectation is for FSU football to fall somewhere in the top 10 preseason ranking. I would likely place FSU above Penn State and LSU.

FSU beat LSU head-to-head last year and has the better quarterback going into 2023. Penn State will have a new starting QB in 2023 also. The good news is FSU will play LSU in the season opener. So that question can get answered right away.

If FSU wins that game, Clemson is likely the only real threat to dethrone them in the regular season unless Jordan Travis misses time somehow. Either way, it’ll be neat to have a potential top-10 matchup in the first game, which is a different narrative than last year’s season opener against LSU.

The two teams were thought to be rebuilding, but both proved they were well ahead of schedule. How do you feel at No. 7? Too low or too high?
