FSU softball (21-3) squandered a huge lead and used a huge sixth inning to overcome No. 3 Oklahoma State on the road in game one.

The Noles drew first blood in the top of the second inning when Hallie Wacaser singled to score Mack Leonard. However, it looked like the Noles broke the game open in the top of the fourth. Devyn Flaherty led off the inning with a walk.

Mack Leonard walked, which set up Michaela Edenfield’s massive three-run home run to give the Noles a 4-0 lead.

However, that lead was short-lived, as the FSU defense betrayed Kathryn Sandercock. Oklahoma State scored four runs on two errors and three hits, all of the runs were unearned.

Oklahoma State took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth when they led the inning off with a double and scored on a throwing error.

FSU softball has been a scrappy bunch all season, and that characteristic showed again in the top of the sixth inning. Kaley Mudge drove in a run on a fielder’s choice, but it was the two-out single by Kalei Harding to give the Noles the eventual 7-5 win.

Kathyrn Sandercock got out of a potential jam in the bottom of the seventh. She walked the leadoff batter but induced a 1-5-3 double play to end the threat. The Noles only had four hits but worked nine walks in the game.

Makenna Reid got the win after relieving Sandercock early in the game, but Sandercock got the save after returning to the mound. They combined three strikeouts, five walks, five hits allowed, a no earned runs allowed.

It wasn’t their best game by any stretch, but winning on the road against the No. 3 team while playing your C game says alot about this team. They’ll look to win the series with tomorrow’s afternoon matchup.
