FSU softball (20-3) got a combined no-hitter to end the Dugout Club Classic Sunday afternoon against Georgia Southern with a 9-1 run-rule win.

Mack Leonard, Allison Royalty, Madi Balk, and Kathryn Sandercock were the pitchers participating in the five-inning no-no.

FSU won four of the five games in the mini-tournament via the run-rule, which was good to see as the competitive level will increase drastically next week when the Noles travel to Oklahoma to face Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.

Colgate, Georgia Southern, and UMass are not good softball programs, but they provided opportunities for Lonni Alameda to get some experience for players, and for some veteran players to begin to find their groove at the plate.

Devyn Flaherty saw her batting average rise by nearly 50 points. Michaela Edenfield had better at-bats, seeing her on-base percentage improve to .435, and hit a big grand slam Saturday.

Katie Dack has been a home run machine. Jahni Kerr and Hallie Wacaser are hitting well over .400, and Kalei Harding continues to rake at the plate.

One of the things that needed to improve was FSU’s defense, and they only committed one error in the past five games. FSU pitchers were solid, only allowing four runs in the same time frame.

As I said in the preview of the Dugout Club Classic, these were games FSU were supposed to dominate, and we’ll see where they stack up against elite teams next week.

FSU will have three days to recoup this week before traveling to Oklahoma Thursday for Friday’s game.

They begin conference play after playing four games in Oklahoma next week, so hopefully, Coach Alameda has figured out her lineup to play at optimal levels.
