FSU softball: JoAnne Graf Classic schedule update
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU softball (2-0) is no stranger to adjusting to bad weather. The Noles had to alter their season opener in the JoAnne Graf Classic against Lipscomb Thursday afternoon.
FSU was originally set to play Lipscomb Thursday night, with a game against Longwood and then Lipscomb again on Friday, followed by a game against Longwood and then Purdue on Saturday. I
Instead, the Noles played a doubleheader against Lipscomb Thursday afternoon. The Noles swept the doubleheader, and you can read takeaways from those games here.
The Longwood and Purdue games slated for Friday were delayed by rain and ultimately postponed. The updated schedule for the remainder of the JoAnne Graf Classic is below:
So while technically the Noles had Friday off due to inclement weather, that means they’ll play three games over the next two days.
The weather delays mean Longwood and Purdue have yet to get their 2023 seasons underway. That should benefit the Noles, who got some game experience against Lipscomb Thursday night.
However, the change in schedule means the Noles will have a quick turnaround after the JoAnne Classic when they host Florida A&M Tuesday night. That will be the last game before heading off to the 2023 TaxAct Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, Florida.
That tournament will feature No. 18 Arizona, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 2 UCLA, No. 20 Louisiana, and No. 6 Alabama. The Crimson Tide lost to Lehigh Frida night.
The Noles rolled through that tournament last year beating No. 15 Tennessee, No. 9 Texas, No. 16 Michigan, No. 24 UCF, and No. 3 UCLA. It’ll be another great barometer for the Noles early in the season and should prepare them well for ACC Conference play.
The remaining games in the JoAnne Graf Classic and the game against FAMU should be good opportunties to get into a nice groove before facing stiffer competition.
