FSU football had an interesting recruiting cycle, starting slow, but with a nice push in the spring with some quality trench players.

It was clear the staff placed a priority on that area while targeting specific players at certain positions. Mike Norvell mentioned they hit on several of their top targets like Hykeem Williams, Lucas Simmons, and Blake Nichelson, and only had two true de-commitments from the class in the recruiting cycle (Roderick Kearney and Keldric Faulk).

Some folks will complain about the overall class ranking, but that’s because the staff only took 18 high school players. The staff decided against signing too many developmental players while signing nine transfers who enrolled in the spring.

The strategy will help the Noles to compete at a higher level on the field in 2023 while allowing younger players more time to develop.

It’s a solid class that addresses some needs and with players that could develop into impact pieces in the future.

Here’s a rundown of superlatives for the 2023 class:

Biggest Surprise-Conrad Hussey

Four-star safety Conrad Hussey is a player that seemed to emerge out of nowhere over the past few weeks to join the class. The former Penn State commit hadn’t been on campus since summer before officially visiting near the Early Signing Period. It was a battle between Penn State, Miami and, FSU, with Hussey delaying his decision until after the first day in the Early Signing Period.

In the end, it was the Noles that got his signature and he fits a huge position of need at safety as the No. 177 player nationally.
