FSU football: Keyshawn Helton transferring to Cincinnati for 2023 season
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has gained and lost players to the transfer portal over the past few weeks. Almost all of the players lost to the portal have left on good terms, and former wide receiver Keyshawn Helton is no exception.
Helton didn’t appear in any games this year, with the Noles bringing in four players receivers from the transfer portal.
Helton joined the team in the 2018 recruiting class as the lowest-rated recruit, but Helton made his presence felt as a freshman.
He tallied 11 receptions for 174 yards and a touchdown that season. Helton looked well on his way to becoming a consistent contributor at wide receiver before an ugly leg injury ended his season after six games.
Helton had accumulated 17 receptions for 239 yards and three touchdowns until the injury. A tireless worker, Helton worked to get back on the field in 2020, probably before he should have been playing during a pandemic.
He didn’t look 100 percent, but he contributed 14 receptions for 119 yards and one touchdown in six games. Helton returned in the 2021 season, appearing in 10 games while catching 19 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns.
He also chipped in as a punt returner in 2020 and 2021. Helton and the coaching staff decided for Helton to keep his one year of eligibility to seek his final year elsewhere, all the while Helton was nothing but a great teammate and true Seminole.
Helton announced he’ll play his final season at Cincinnati under former Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield.
The response Helton got from teammates and fans is what you’d expect from a guy that put it on the line he put that uniform on. I wish Keyshawn Helton nothing but the best, and I hope he finishes his career strong in 2023.
