Missed Cuts Cost Trey Benson 1,000 yards

FSU running back Trey Benson ended the regular season as one of the best running backs in the nation. He had 100 rushing yards in four of the final five games and was only 35 yards away from his goal of 1,000 rushing yards.

Considering Oklahoma’s run defense had been poor throughout the season, it seemed like a lock for him to become the first 1,000-yard rusher since Cam Akers in 2019.

He had plenty of opportunities with 13 carries, but only managed 25 rushing yards to fall 10 yards shy of the goal.

Some of it was on the offensive line not blocking well, but Benson missed a few cuts on some runs that would have put him over the goal.

Outside of a couple of runs, he seemed to revert back to the tentative running style we saw earlier in the season.

It sucks to see him get so close to such a huge goal, but at least he’ll be back next year with an excellent chance to reach it.
