FSU football: Winston Wright hints at 2023 return to Noles
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football wide receiver Winston Wright was one of the most important transfer portal players Mike Norvell and staff added to its roster before the 2022 season.
Wright was the most accomplished and proven wide receiver of the four added from the transfer portal, thought to be an immediate contributor on offense and as a kick returner.
However, a car accident this spring derailed all those plans, and he’s yet to appear in a game this season.
He’s made great progress in his rehab, but with only three games left in the regular season, it looks like Wright may not see the field at all.
The good news is, he’s getting healthy, and the wide receiver unit is light years better than last year.
Not only that, but Winston Wright hinted he could return to FSU in 2023 to finish what he started via his Twitter account Monday night:
The bulk of FSU’s receiving production has come from two transfers and FSU’s leading receiver from last year, Ontaria Wilson. The Noles will lose Wilson after the 2022 season, and I’d expect more attrition at the position with a log jam of sophomores vying for a spot.
If Wright returns, that almost guarantees more attrition at the position, especially if Johnny Wilson and Mycah Pittman return.
However, it would also mean the wide receiver unit would likely be even better in 2023 than this year, plus FSU has three talented freshmen committed to join the team next year. That trio, along with those that choose to stay will provide great mentorship for those young players and help solidify that unit for years to come.
If Jordan Travis returns, and all of these wide receivers return, coupled with an improved offensive line and the running back room? Things could get real spooky on offense in 2023.
