Former FSU football blue-chip running back commit Cedric Baxter Jr. visited the Noles last week for the Clemson game at seemingly the last minute.

He announced Sunday night he’ll officially visit the Noles for the Georgia Tech game on Saturday.

Current Texas commit de-committed from the Noles in April 2021 after committing in July 2020 in the middle of the pandemic.

FSU head coach Mike Norvell made a splash earlier this week when he showed up at Baxter’s high school via helicopter to check in on the recruiting target with the War Chant playing in the background.

FSU has one blue-chip running back commit in Samuel Singleton and has another blue-chip option in Utah commit Michael Mitchell. However, the addition of Baxter would be a home run and finish-off running back recruiting for the 2023 cycle.

Baxter ranks as the No. 47 player and No. 4 running back in his class. He checks in at 6’1″ and 215 pounds and grew up an FSU fan.

FSU’s rushing attack against Clemson and the growth of the program since Mike Norvell took over the program is something Baxter has watched from afar as a fan.

Has Mike Norvell improved the program enough to give the Noles a legitimate shot to flip the Texas commit? Cedric Baxter Jr. visiting in back-to-back weeks and taking an official something to take note of, but I think they’ll have to get him back on campus again before I’d get too excited. It’s still nearly two months before the Early Signing Period, but he has already used his official visit to Texas.

However, at the very least, there’s a long relationship with the coaching staff, and there could be some influence for Baxter to remain in-state.

If he were to flip, Baxter would become the third top 100 player in the class and second top 50. The final five games set up nicely for the Noles, with teams they should be able to establish the run against.  We’ll have to see if it’s enough for Baxter to pull the trigger.
