FSU football suffered its first loss last against one of the best offenses in the nation, Wake Forest.

The FSU defense held the Demon Deacons well below its scoring and yards per play average but failed to get off the field on some third-down situations, and the FSU offense failed to show up for the rest of the first half after scoring on their opening drive was their downfall.

A lot of undeserved heat got placed on the FSU defense, who allowed 10 of 18 third down conversions. However, there were players in position to make plays on at least half of those 10 conversions, and that’s all you can ask of the defensive coordinator.

Injuries have impacted this FSU, but they have performed admirably, and it’s more eye-opening when you hear some folks give their perception of things. FSU has played a tougher schedule than NC State, yet folks spout NC State’s defense as elite.

However, when you look at the numbers, they tell a different story. Here are some key stats from the NC State defense through five games.

Keep in mind, they played ECU, Charleston Southern, Texas Tech, UConn, and Clemson.
