Special Teams Shined

Special teams had a major impact on this game. I mentioned the kickoff return for a touchdown by Trey Benson that set the tone for the game. Boston College chose not to return after kickoffs and didn’t return any punts.

FSU punter Alex Mastromanno only punted twice, with a 53-yarder, and should have had the other one downed inside the one-yard line if FSU gunners didn’t get faked out.

Aside from a missed extra-point by Ryan Fitzgerald, the only gripe I have is Mycah Pittman not fielding a couple of punts. However, the one punt he returned went for 18-yards.

He had another good return that got called back because the ACC referees said he signaled for a fair catch although he didn’t.

Fitzgerald made a 30-yard field goal, but he still looks incredibly shaky when he gets opportunities. Mike Norvell went for a couple of fourth downs because they had no faith in him from longer distances.

This game was one of the better performances by FSU special teams we’ve seen in a while.
