FSU football recruiting: Noles trending for 2023 five-star wide receiver
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football recruiting has been trending positively over the past few months. FSU coaches have added some quality players in the trenches and some nice-skill players.
The addition of blue-chip linebacker Blake Nichelson Tuesday night filled a need and a boost to the 2023 class. However, the potential of adding five-star wide receiver Hykeem Williams has all FSU football fans waiting with anticipation.
Williams will announce his decision Friday afternoon, and the Noles seem to be the team trending right now. There have been several crystal ball predictions rolling in over the past 24 hours, but the one everyone has been waiting for is well-respected Steve Wiltfong.
Wiltfong placed his crystal ball prediction early Thursday morning with confidence of six. Andrew Ivins placed his prediction with a confidence of five.
FSU has been in the mix for a long time for the Florida native and signed one of his best friends and high school teammate Omar Graham Jr. last recruiting cycle. Georgia, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, and Alabama are in the mix.
However, most folks believe the battle has been between Texas A&M and FSU for the most part. Williams has officially visited Pittsburgh and went to one of their game against Tennessee. Williams unofficially visited Texas A&M for their game against Miami in what turned out to be an offensive snoozefest.
FSU’s offense has looked like one of the best in the country, averaging over seven yards per play with explosive plays on the ground and through the air. That’s something wide receivers have been waiting to see from Mike Norvell’s offense since he arrived in Tallahassee from Memphis.
This FSU offense finally resembles what we saw from Memphis with the evolution of quarterback Jordan Travis.
Recruiting can be fluid, and who knows what will happen Friday but it will be a massive win for FSU should Williams choose to commit to them Friday afternoon.
He would be the highest-ranked wide receiver to commit since D.J. Matthews (No. 51 player overall) in the 2017 recruiting cycle.
George Campbell (No. 19 overall in 2015) would be the last receiver signed who ranked higher than Williams.
