FSU football: Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke disses Miami fans?
By Kelvin Hunt
Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke hasn’t gotten off to the start a lot of folks expected in 2022.
I wasn’t one of them, as I’ve been telling people since April that teams would have footage on him to make adjustments, and Miami wouldn’t have the talent at wide receiver they had last year.
I also told you Miami was overhyped going into the 2022 season and they will go the entire month of September without a win over a Power 5 program.
On top of that, the Miami quarterback doesn’t seem to be the biggest fan of playing home games at the Hard Rock Stadium:
It’s a running joke among FSU football fans about what we call the Hard Rock Doak South. Home games for Miami are pathetic from an attendance standpoint, and FSU games are the only time they come close to a sell-out.
The 2018 game against FSU is the biggest crowd they’ve had over the past few years. I thought it was weird that Van Dyke would come out and say they don’t have a college atmosphere.
I mean, it’s true, but I didn’t think he’d come out and say it. That won’t help recruiting, but recruits can see that when they go to the games.
I have never understood why anyone would want to play at a school where the fans don’t show up, and the stadium isn’t anywhere near campus. It’s a prime reason Miami scheduled nearly all their official visitors to come during the summer months.
I would say they could invite recruits to the FSU football game, but that could be a gift and a curse. The atmosphere would be electric because a ton of FSU fans would be there, but it’s also a game Miami could lose for the second consecutive year.
In the preseason, Van Dyke said he was looking for revenge for last year’s loss. The way Miami has looked early, they might not happen this year.
