FSU WR Play

FSU football had the worst wide receiver unit in the ACC last season. They failed to beat man-to-man coverage consistently, and opposing defenses didn’t have to worry about shutting anyone down.

The coaching staff realized this and added four receivers from the transfer portal. It looks like three of those receivers will be significant upgrades over the options from last year. However, the competition from those players has helped elevate players like Malik McClain, Kentron Poitier, and Ontaria Wilson.

Things could be looking up in 2022. Mycah Pittman should be a consistent option to move the chains. Johnny Wilson appears to be a mismatch and legitimate red zone target. Deuce Spann could become the vertical deep threat FSU needs to prevent teams from stacking the box. If Winston Wright can return at some point and be close to what we thought he’d be before the car wreck? That would be an added bonus.

I’m almost certain this unit will not be the worst in the ACC in 2022. If they can become a consistent threat to opposing defenses? That will make the FSU offense formidable and likely one of the keys to FSU winning some toss-up games.
