FSU football added another quality piece to its 2023 recruiting class Thursday with the addition of three-star defensive tackle Tavion Gadson.

Gadson has over 20 offers and chose the Noles over the likes of Minnesota, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

The addition gives the Noles 13 commitments and two defensive tackles in the class. It also moves the Noles from No. 33 nationally to No. 28.

He announced the news via his Twitter account:

Gadson officially visited the Noles on June 24, the big recruiting weekend that featured eventual FSU commits Keldric Faulk, Lucas Simmons, Samuel Singleton, and DeMarcus Ward.

The three-star Gadson lists 6’4″ and 280 pounds, ranking as the No. 683 player and No. 79 defensive lineman, and is the second player from Georgia in the class.

FSU has lost one recruiting battle to Kentucky for a defensive back, so it was good to see the Noles win this one, especially since the Wildcats have yet to land a defensive tackle in their 2023 recruiting class.

He continues the impressive run of Odell Haggins and John Papuchis after it looked like the defensive tackle room wasn’t going to be a strength about a year or so ago. It also continues FSU’s strong work in the Peach state over the past couple of years.

I don’t expect Gadson to be an immediate contributor, but more than likely an Odell Haggins’ special, similar to someone like Malcolm Ray. However, Gadson is two inches taller and about 40 pounds heavier than Ray out of high school.

That should take off some of the time it will take for him to develop into a contributor at the college level. FSU can now go big game hunting with about one more spot left to fill at defensive tackle. Four-star Jordan Hall would likely be the most realistic and highest-ranked target.
