FSU football aimed for two quarterbacks in their 2023 recruiting class and now have none of their top targets committed, with four-star Brock Glenn committing to Ohio State Saturday afternoon.
Four-star Chris Parson de-committed earlier this month after a volatile final few months. It’s a recruiting miss and bad for the optics, but I don’t think there’s any shame in losing a recruit to Ohio State.
The optics part is what I want to address here. Mike Norvell hasn’t been able to avoid QB recruiting drama.
Luke Altmyer de-committed in 2021, and Nicco Marchiol de-committed in 2022(though replaced by the higher-rated AJ Duffy, who ultimately signed with FSU).
Chris Parson de-committed in the 2023 class, and they missed on Brock Glenn with no realistic shot of signing a blue-chip caliber quarterback in 2023.
However, it’s not the end of the world, and you shouldn’t spend time worrying about any player that likely wasn’t going to see the field until 2025 at the earliest.
I say that whether we’re referring to Chris Parson or Brock Glenn, and you’d likely lose one of them before then if both signed with FSU, with 2024 commit Luke Kromenhoek in the fold.

QB Reality
Mike Norvell’s future rides on the 2022 season. If they don’t win at least seven games, I’m not saying he’ll get fired, but it won’t be enough progress to make necessary changes to the staff or attract enough difference-makers on the recruiting trail.
If they win enough games in 2022, that likely begins the AJ Duffy era at FSU. Duffy, a former blue-chip and top 200 player overall, likely takes over the reins as a redshirt freshman if Jordan Travis leaves the program.
That would mean Brock Glenn or Chris Parson would redshirt in 2023 because neither would be good enough to start as freshmen. Then the question would be could they develop enough to overtake Duffy in 2024?
I doubt it, which means they likely wouldn’t see the field until 2025, and that’s only if AJ Duffy was good enough to leave for the NFL after his third year.
However, 2024 commit Luke Kromenhoek likely has more potential and upside than Parson and Glenn.
If Kromenhoek sticks with his commitment(I know, who knows), they may never see the field at FSU as starters anyways. Not to mention there’s always the transfer portal option.

Parting Thoughts
The FSU football coaching staff has had mishaps on the recruiting trail, but I don’t fault how they handled QB recruiting in this recruiting cycle.
They were not in a position for an elite QB and went for realistic guys and got a commitment from one in Parson. However, how Parson and his family(mainly his father) reacted on social media in situations were red flags, and I’m not sure that would have been the best fit for this program.
A coaching staff can’t allow a recruit’s family to bully them into making decisions when that recruit likely won’t see the field for a couple of years.
They shot their shot with Brock Glenn and Ohio State, a program that’s had much more success over the last few years and produced better QBs than FSU.

So FSU will be left with likely taking another QB project, which is no different than what they would have had with either Parson or Glenn in reality.
They’ll likely need to hit the QB portal or somehow make sure Jordan Travis sticks around for another year. However, it’ll depend on how AJ Duffy feels about that. Good luck to Glenn, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the transfer portal at some point with what Ohio State has at QB in 2024.
Maybe the relationship with FSU could be a factor at that point. At the end of the day, it’s bad for the optics, but FSU will be fine, although they missed on their top targets at QB in 2023.
