FSU football: Website ranks Mike Norvell 9th among ACC coaches

FSU football head coach Mike Norvell enters his third year at the helm with a lot to prove, coming off of a 5-7 campaign and arguably the worst loss in school history.

However, he’s put his stamp on the program, flipping the roster with help from the transfer portal, which helped the Noles become a much more competitive program in 2021.

They were in every game and looked competent aside from special teams and easily could have won 7-8 games had a few things gone their way.

However, getting close only matters in grenades and horseshoes they say, which lands Norvell at No. 9 in CBS Sport’s ranking of ACC coaches going into the 2022 season:

Thoughts

I can’t argue the first two, and Clemson continues to reign over the conference under Dabo Swinney, and Dave Clawson has done the most with arguably the least amount of talent. Mario Cristobal hasn’t won a game in the conference yet, and placing him at three is weird, considering he barely has a .500 record as a head coach.

Mack Brown at No. 4? Based on what? His UNC team went from 8-4 to 6-7 with arguably the best QB in their history in Sam Howell. He lost both games against FSU football by the way. I can’t complain about Doeren and Narduzzi, but Jeff Hafley at No. 7?

Based on what? Boston College has won six games both years with him as head coach. Boston College had won seven and six games the two years before he got hired, so I don’t understand the hype.

How can he move up when winning the same number of games as the previous year? I know their starting QB missed some time, but the same goes for Jordan Travis at FSU. Nevertheless, Mike Norvell will have an opportunity to make his mark in 2022.

He returns a ton of production on both sides of the ball, and there are no excuses going into year three with his most talented roster since arriving at FSU.
