FSU football: Blue-chip OT Lucas Simmons sets commitment date
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football added one of their top targets to Tribe23 a couple of weeks ago when blue-chip offensive lineman Roderick Kearney committed to the Noles.
Another top offensive line target in the 2023 recruiting cycle for FSU football, Lucas Simmons, announced Wednesday night he plans to announce his commitment on July 11th on CBSSports HQ.
Simmons announced the news via his Twitter account with the top four schools of FSU, Florida, USC, and Tennessee.
Do the Noles have a realistic shot?
There are no crystal ball predictions for Simmons, but I believe the Noles have a realistic shot of adding one of the more important trench pieces to their recruiting class.
Simmons officially visited all four schools but saved the FSU visit for his final visit and has stated the best coach relationship he has is with FSU offensive coordinator Alex Atkins.
Simmons grew up in Sweden before coming to the United States. He ranks as the No. 107 player and No. 13 offensive tackle and plays high school football in Clearwater, Florida.
When it comes down to the four schools? Florida seems to have no momentum on the recruiting trail, and FSU commit Roderick Kearney committed to FSU minutes after leaving the official visit there.
I’d have to imagine he has been in Simmon’s ear to join him in Tallahassee. USC is clear across the country, and would Simmons want to move that far after finally getting acclimated to life in Florida? Tennessee was the first official visit back in May.
Did they make enough of an impression to stave off the other three officials that came afterward? Atkins is FSU’s best recruiter, and he would be hard to bet against at this point. FSU has done a great job addressing the trenches, and a player like Simmons would turn heads in the recruiting world if he chose the Noles.
We’ll find out in a few days, and a commitment from Simmons could signal a few more blue-chip targets to make their move towards Tallahassee.
