The newest addition to the FSU football team from the transfer portal, D’Mitri Emmanuel, talks about joining the program.

The former UNC-Charlotte offensive lineman played for FSU offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins during the 2019 season.

Emmanuel hit on a variety of topics from his time at UNC-Charlotte, what he’ll bring to the team, and who he spoke with from FSU to get some insight and more.

I wrote about the impact of Emmanuel joining the program

:

Some Takeways

-Looking to be challenged and to goto a place with a lot of tradition
-Familiarity playing for Alex Atkins
-Plans to bring leadership to the team
-Spoke with Devontay Love-Taylor, who transferred to FSU from Conference USA
-Had six offensive line coaches while at UNC-Charlotte
-Pass protection is his best asset, and wanting to work on finishing and sustaining blocks

Thoughts

It’s easy to tell D’Mitri Emmanuel is an older player, comfortable talking with media, although he played at a smaller school(similar to Love-Taylor). It seems like the coaching staff used the same approach they used with Jermaine Johnson because they know he’s only going to be at FSU for one year.

We saw Johnson take a similar role last season, bringing leadership to the defensive end position and helping to provide a great example of work ethic to the younger guys at the position.

Emmanuel is coming with no set position in mind, but wants to help bring leadership to the unit, and help the young guys on the team develop. The latter is important because of the offensive linemen added in the 2022 recruiting cycle. A couple of them enrolled early, but three, possibly four will join the program this summer.

The FSU football coaching staff continues to look for transfer portal players with the right mindset that can help elevate the team at key positions on and off the field.
