The 2022 NFL Draft was an odd one, to say the least. I wrote former FSU football defensive end Jermaine Johnson was the best defensive end in the draft.

However, he was the fourth defensive end selected with the No. 26 overall pick. Johnson expected to hear his name called in the first 15 selections, but like most years, NFL GM’s made some terrible decisions.

There were six wide receivers in the first 18 draft picks and only one QB. I can’t figure out why some of the guys got selected before Johnson.

However, there’s a reason terrible teams remain terrible for long periods of time.

Jermaine Johnson has everything you want in a player, but for whatever reason he slid into late in the first round. It felt similar to former Noles like Dalvin Cook and Derwin James, who went later in the draft then expected.

Those players proved a lot of teams wrong with their NFL careers so far, and I’m sure Jermaine Johnson is built from the same cloth. If there’s any player I’d bet on to prove people wrong, it’s Jermaine Johnson.

He’s a guy that took the most unconventional route to get to where he is today. FSU coaches have done nothing but rave about what he brought to the program.

He has the right attitude, humility, and work ethic to have success in the NFL for a long time as long as he remains healthy.
