FSU football coaches have done a solid job addressing roster holes on the offensive line through the transfer portal. Spring camp revealed they likely need 1-2 more additions to make most feel comfortable if the injury bug strikes.

The Noles had a few offensive linemen out for the spring game, and other players are probably too young to make an impact in 2022. However, a perfect candidate to help FSU in 2022 entered the transfer portal Sunday afternoon.

Former five-star offensive tackle Amarius Mims. Mims was part of the 2021 recruiting cycle and heavily recruited by FSU offensive line coach Alex Atkins. Mims hails from Georgia and ultimately chose the hometown state and signed with UGA as an early enrollee.

Some smoke began to come from UGA a few months ago that Mims could enter the transfers portal. He chose to stay and go through spring camp, but reports began to circulate he was not at spring practice the last few days and that he could enter the portal. Here we are.

Mims was the No. 8 player overall and No. 3 offensive tackle in his recruiting cycle. Mims checks in at 6’7″ and 330 pounds and would immediately be the most talented offensive lineman on the FSU football roster.

He’d likely be an immediate starter. The question is, can FSU sign him? Mims listed FSU football in his final six schools list of FSU, Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Tennesse, and Oklahoma.

Mims would reportedly need a waiver to transfer to another SEC school because he didn’t enter the portal before spring practice started. That seems to give FSU football an edge, especially since Oklahoma has a new head coach.

There are some rumors of Miami being in play. Mims visited the Noles in November 2019. I don’t know what it will take to sign Mims, but FSU needs to go all out here since they have had some sort of relationship with him, and Tallahassee would be relatively close to home.
