FSU softball: Noles to play doubleheader Friday against Georgia Tech
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU softball (20-1, 2-1 ACC) will play a doubleheader on the road against Georgia Tech Friday before finishing up the series Sunday afternoon.
The change in the schedule is due to potential inclement weather in the area Saturday. FSU canceled Wednesday’s game against Holy Cross due to inclement weather.
Georgia Tech (15-5, 0-3 ACC) was swept in conference play last week by No. 13 Duke. Georgia Tech hitters come into the game batting .301 while striking out 18.5 percent of the time. They’ve hit 13 home runs, 32 doubles, and three triples with an on-base percentage of .421.
Georgia Tech pitchers come into the game with a 2.42 ERA and opposing hitters bat .220. They have 139 strikeouts against 59 walks and have allowed 14 home runs.
When it comes to aggressiveness on the basepaths, they are 23 of 26 on stolen base attempts. Defensively, they’ve committed 10 errors for a .980 fielding percentage.
FSU pitchers allow a .174 batting average with 144 strikeouts against 26 walks. They have allowed nine home runs and 16 more extra-base hits and have an ERA of 1.29.
FSU batters come into the game hitting .321 while striking out 13.8 percent of the time. They’ve hit 20 home runs, 28 doubles, and six triples. Defensively, FSU has nine errors in 21 games for a fielding percentage of .980.
It’s a series FSU softball is favored to win, but they’ll need to play well in all three phases. Georgia Tech is sound defensively and will put the ball in play.
If you haven’t watched FSU softball play yet, I’d encourage you to give them a look. It’s a fun and exciting group to watch in action!
The first game starts at 2 p.m. ET, with the second game 30 minutes after the first game ends. The games will air on the ACCNX channel.
