Running Backs

FSU had one of the most productive runnings games in the nation last year. FSU ranked No. 40 in yards per rush and No. 52, averaging 177 rushing yards per game. Quarterback Jordan Travis was a large factor in those numbers but missed the equivalent of about four games with injuries.

Travis returns at quarterback, but FSU’s leading rusher, Jashaun Corbin, will likely hear his name called in the upcoming NFL Draft. That leaves former walk-on Treshaun Ward who earned a scholarship before the 2021 season.

Ward was third on the team with 515 rushing yards but was the team leader in yards per rush (6.36). He also tallied four rushing touchdowns and 21 receptions for 185 receiving yards and one touchdown. However, production dropped off the table after that. Lawrence Toafili battled injuries and appeared in nine games, tallying 163 rushing yards on 32 carries.

He also had 10 receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns. D.J. Williams had 10 carries for 47 yards and one touchdown. Ward is the only proven running back on the roster, with Toafili and Travis battling injuries each year.

FSU signed Trey Benson from the transfer portal, but he’s coming off a major injury and scarce production. It’ll be interesting to see where the production from this unit comes from in 2022.
