FSU football: Top superlatives for 2022 recruiting class
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football had an interesting recruiting cycle that saw them get off to an excellent start, despite only having face-to-face opportunities with recruits for half the recruiting cycle.
They had the No. 1 overall recruit committed for the entire cycle before losing him on Early Signing Day.
The class hovered between No. 8-15 ranking for much of the recruiting cycle and finished No. 20 as recruiting sites updated their rankings, and FSU decided against signing project players while signing ten transfers who enrolled in the spring.
The strategy will help the Noles to compete at a higher level on the field in 2022 while allowing some younger players more time to develop.
It’s a solid class that addresses some needs, and some players that could develop into nice pieces in the future.
Here’s a rundown of superlatives for the 2022 class:
Biggest Surprise-Azareye’h Thomas
Four-star defensive back Azareye’h Thomas is a player that repeatedly told the staff he wasn’t interested in signing with FSU football. However, the staff never wavered, and as other things in the college football world changed, the staff was there waiting for the opportunity.
The combination of relentless pursuit, proximity to home, and likely early playing time was enough to have Thomas chose the Noles on Early Signing Day after not giving them the time of day much of the recruiting cycle.
