FSU football will enter the second half of their 2021 schedule Saturday when they host former offensive coordinator Walt Bell and the UMASS Minutemen.

It’s homecoming, and FSU fans want blood after how Bell left the Noles after the 2018 season. Many hold him responsible for former QB commit Sam Howell flipping to North Carolina a couple of days before signing day.

I still blame Willie Taggart for allowing that relationship to exist the way it did at the time. A head coach should be more involved in quarterback recruiting than he was in that one. I’d treat this game like a season opener against a team FSU is expected to blow out with a tough game in week two.

The Noles are -35 point betting favorites, and the over/under total is 61. UMASS has won only one game out of its last 20 and ranks near the bottom of every statistical category possible.

The hope is FSU football can take care of business early and allow some of their younger players to gain experience.

FSU starters have played many snaps, and they need them to be as fresh as possible with a tough slate in the final five games. The Noles released their depth chart for the game Monday.
