FSU football: Three thoughts on FSU 2022 recruiting
By Kelvin Hunt
Most people have said the 2022 recruiting class would make or break Mike Norvell’s tenure at FSU. If they sign Hunter, McCall, and Duffy, I think that’s enough, along with the other supporting players, to get the program on the way back to an elite level.
Here’s the kicker, the Noles can sign up to 32 players in this class because of the one-time NCAA waiver passed recently.
The recruiting class could consist of whatever mixture of high school players and players from the transfer portal. I think they’ll need to use the portal for an offensive tackle, defensive tackle, linebacker, and wide receiver if possible.
However, some of that will be determined by who returns after the 2021 class. The good news is, the coaching staff could use the transfer portal to try and offset some blue-chip misses in the high school ranks.
We’ve seen the impact of Jermaine Johnson, Fabien Lovett, Jammie Robinson, Dillan Gibbons, Jashaun Corbin, Keir Thomas, and a couple of others.
That strategy would be a way to compete in 2022 instead of waiting for those high school players to develop for a couple of years.
Eventually, the coaching staff wants to build the program with high school players, but the transfer portal will have to continue to be a part of recruiting until the product on the field influences elite blue-chip players to come to FSU football en mass again.
