FSU football: 5 key moments in ‘Noles win over Syracuse
By Kelvin Hunt
Moment #3
FSU football scores a touchdown on their second possession of the second half to go up 23-13. It looked like the Noles could finally take control of the game.
The defense got a three-and-out, forcing the Orange to punt and Ontaria Wilson muffed the punt. That meant the defense had to go right back on a short field with the ball on the FSU 34-yard line.
The FSU defense bent but didn’t break as the Orange got down to the FSU one-yard line and couldn’t punch it in. It was first and goal from the eight-yard line.
The Noles got an incomplete pass on second down but allowed a seven-yard pass to get the ball down to the FSU one-yard line. It was fourth and goal from the FSU one-yard line and the Noles denied Syracuse QB Garrett Schrader for a turnover on downs.
It was a huge stop for the FSU defense, but it put the offense in a tough spot. The FSU offense went three-and-out, but it at least burned some clock and prevented Syracuse from immediately capitalizing on the FSU miscue.
