FSU football hasn’t had much to cheer about in the 2021 season. Most Nole fans had low expectations of maybe making a bowl game and winning 5-7 games.
The Noles have started the season 0-4 but could easily be 3-1. Miami came into the 2021 season with lofty expectations of winning the ACC for the first time, just as they do every season.
However, a blowout loss against Alabama and barely beating Appalachian State should have been foreshadowing that wasn’t likely.
That’s why Thursday night’s game against Virginia was so important for the Canes as their first ACC game of the year. A loss there makes it tough to win the ACC Coastal since Virginia is one of the worst teams in the league.
That’s exactly what the Canes did on a missed field goal as time expired.
This weekend already a win...Boyz just knew they had it 🤣 https://t.co/gSDprZQUY6

Thoughts
I thought it was a mistake to settle for the field goal when they likely could have scored a touchdown with better playcalling. Virginia had no pass rush late and Miami went conservative once they passed midfield. I know some Nole fans don’t want to get the jokes off because the Noles haven’t won a game yet. I don’t know why, because Miami fans try to get their jokes off even though they have sucked for the past 20 years.
I’ve said it time and again, Miami will not be an elite power in college football. They want to talk about firing Manny Diaz, but that job isn’t what it once was because the landscape is different. Miami doesn’t have the resources to compete with elite schools, nor can they keep the South Florida talent at home as they did in their heyday.
Manny Diaz has been at Miami for seven years(counting his time as defensive coordinator), and there’s no reason they should look so raggedy as a program at this juncture.
They have a tough slate of games on the horizon, and it looks like things could get much worse than they ever thought before the season began.
