Offensive Line Pass Protection Still A Liability

FSU’s offensive line allowed eight tackles for a loss and five sacks Sunday night. The run blocking proved to be good last year, and it looked good in the second half Sunday night.

However, the pass blocking left a bad taste in my mouth. The Noles couldn’t block anyone on the first few series and it took too long for the passing game to get going.

I think one of the reasons is the lack of time the players have had at practice. Devontay Love-Taylor missed more camp with rehab, and Dillon Gibbons just got to Tallahassee in the summer.

Surprisingly, it was the guards who gave up most of the tackles for loss and the offensive tackles played OK for the most part.

The bad part is the offensive line saw a couple of players go down with an injury. Two important starters, Gibbons and center Maurice Smith were hurt, and we’ll have to wait to see if they’ll be available for the Jacksonville State game.

Hopefully, they’ll return, and this offensive line unit can get some much-needed reps together at practice.
