FSU Will Hold Notre Dame To 225 Rushing Yards or Less

Notre Dame ran the ball down FSU’s throat last season to the tune of over 353 yards while averaging nearly 10 yards per carry.

Both Notre Dame running backs had over 100 yards, and quarterback Ian Book checked in with 58 yards on nine carries.

I don’t expect Jack Coan to rush the ball nine yards, much less get 58 rushing yards. A lot of that 300+ came on two huge plays of 65 and 45 yards for the Notre Dame running backs.

Will they break open long runs again in 2021? It’s possible, but I expect the FSU defensive front to be better, and I think the linebackers will fill their gaps better.

I like the FSU secondary a bit better than last year as well. Travis Jay and Jarvis Brownlee aren’t afraid to be physical in the secondary. I know that’s not the case with Jammie Robinson, and Akeem Dent has the physical tools to come downhill and be a factor.

I mean the defense couldn’t have been much worse last season. If Coan isn’t a threat to run and the two running backs aren’t streaking down the field a couple of times for touchdowns?

There’s a great shot they’ll accomplish this feat, but then again, we don’t know what to expect from this FSU defense.
