FSU football fielded an atrocious defense in 2020. I didn’t think I’d ever see an FSU defense worse than what I saw in 2009, but that’s what happened in Adam Fuller’s first year as defensive coordinator.

If this is your first time on the site, you’d be surprised to learn I felt the Adam Fuller hire was solid. After all, he helped improve defenses in his first year at two different institutions.

However, he didn’t have to deal with a pandemic that canceled spring and summer practices. It wasn’t only FSU’s defense that was worse than once could imagine.

There were tons of teams who normally field decent to good defenses that saw their units look like a sieve. I mean Alabama’s vaunted defense couldn’t get stops at times last year.

There were missed assignments and missed tackles galore, but that won’t be the case for Adam Fuller in 2021.

The Noles have had spring camp and summer workouts while completing their first week of fall camp. There’s experience returning at every level of the defense, and believe it or not, there’s still a lot of former blue-chip recruits on that side of the ball.

The challenge Adam Fuller eluded to after the first scrimmage of fall camp was learning which players fit what role the best so they can get their 11 best players on the field at once.

The defense has no choice but to improve in 2021, and here are three areas where they need the most improvement.
