FSU football: Top 5 concerns going into 2021 season
By Kelvin Hunt
Depth
The team returns starters on both sides of the ball, but there are still a few areas where depth and productivity are a concern.
Linebackers-Amari Gainer and Stephen Dix Jr. return, and it seems like Kalen DeLoach is turning the corner. However, linebacker is still a concern in terms of execution and depth.
Offensive line-The offensive line is in better shape than in years past. There’s a lot of cross-training with players able to play a couple of positions. However, this unit is still a couple of injuries away from losing much of its potential to be decent.
Wide Receivers-Kansas transfer Andrew Parchment was brought in to help this group but sat out most of 2020. Keyshawn Helton and Ontaria Wilson have dealt with injuries the past couple of years. Will any of the young players step up in 2021?
Defensive Tackle– Fabien Lovett, Robert Cooper, and Dennis Briggs Jr. represent some proven players. Who steps up after those guys?
Defensive End-Jermaine Johnson was brought in from the transfer portal but is still relatively unproven. The same for the other transfer Marcus Cushnie. Are there young players that can step in and contribute at one of the biggest positions of need?
Secondary-Jammie Robinson, Jarvis Brownlee, and Travis Jay are guys I have faith in going into the season. Some young guys are flashing, and others are coming off on injuries.
