FSU football  recruiting ended June with a ton of momentum, and to no surprise continued that momentum into July.

I wrote about how several players were trending to the Noles after they captured a few commitments last week.

One of those players, three-star tight end Jerrale Powers, announced his commitment to the Noles Friday afternoon.

Powers becomes the No. 15 player in the 2022 recruiting class that remains No. 3 in the national rankings.

Jerrale Powers hails from Duncanville, Texas, and ranks as the No. 1,157 player overall and No. 69 tight end. He ranks as the No. 162 player in Texas and is the second tight end in the class along with three-star athlete Brian Courtney.

Powers checks in at 6’4″ and 238 pounds and holds offers like FSU, Colorado, Arizona State, Arkansas, Oregon State, Kansas, Utah, and Connecticut.

One thing of note is Powers is teammates with blue-chip FSU offensive tackle target Jaylen Early. Both visited the Noles last week announced commitment dates shortly thereafter. Early originally set a date for July 15 but has since pushed the date back to August 2.

Thoughts

It’s an interesting take. He’s a big body player that will need to be developed before he finds playing time. He has nine receptions for 118 yards, and one touchdown in a COVID shorten 2020 season. There are not many blue-chip tight ends in the 2022 recruiting class, so the coaching staff seems to be looking for size and athleticism with Powers and Courtney.

Some people may think Powers is part of a package deal with Early, and the two have talked about playing together in college. However, I’m not sure that’s the case either.

I am curious to see the reaction from fans now that this commit is public. The coaching staff got hammered for accepting a commitment from Courtney, who had not visited campus at the time and had no composite ranking and only about five offers.

I trust this staff’s evaluations, and I’m sure they have a plan for both players, and it’ll be interesting to see how long it takes them to develop and how they’ll be used.

Welcome to Tribe22 Jerrale Powers!
