How To Sell 3-6

The first thing is to communicate that record isn’t acceptable, but also admitting the reality of not having a spring camp and the difficulties of navigating the pandemic and how you plan to fix it.

Then it’s communicating the need to improve the roster with talented players and your track record of a program ascending to the Cotton Bowl from a G5 conference.

Then it’s all about trust and relationships. FSU has a track record of greatness, winning championships, and getting players to the NFL. The program is one of a handful that’s won a national championship in these player’s lifetimes.

Are Mike Norvell and the coaching staff one the players can trust? That’s where paying attention to the details and delivering on everything you’ve communicated to a recruit in the process is the difference.

All of those things combined allow these recruits to trust the process and understand 3-6 will not be the standard in Tallahassee. However, it’s also about being real and preparing these players for what they should expect from the Noles in the 2021 season.

Teams are already trying to use last season as a negative recruiting tool. However, Mike Norvell has taken the Eminem approach from the last battle rap scene in 8 Mile when talking with some players.

"“He let me know the three reasons why I shouldn’t come here,” Jones Jr. said. “That is not something a lot of coaches would say to me.”"

That’s one thing Mike Norvell shared with prized legacy recruit Marvin Jones Jr., according to Noles247. Those negatives don’t hit the same if you as staff are honest about them. It’s all about hard work, planning and organization, and finding those players that want to embrace the journey to come.

There is no false sense of everything is roses, and things will be easy if you come to FSU. However, they will have the opportunity to join a climb that’s been done before in their lifetimes.

All they have to do is look at FSU from 2009-2014 when these guys were youngsters. Miami, Florida, or Georgia have not gone from mediocrity to national champions. Alabama, LSU, and Clemson are the only other three schools that can say that in the last 10-15 years.
