FSU football coaches are in the midst of some big-time recruiting battles in the 2022 class and beyond. One of the challenges for Mike Norvell and the coaching staff is establishing roots in South Florida, where a ton of blue-chip players reside.

It’s an area Jimbo Fisher raided to bring the Noles back to prominence after the Bobby Bowden years, and it looks as though Mike Norvell is on the same path.

Miami fans went up in arms when I posted about FSU legacy recruit Marvin Jones Jr. throwing down the U in a recent visit to Tallahassee.

The comments were classless, as one could imagine coming from Miami fans. I believe most do not believe they have a real shot at landing Jones Jr.

However, one blue-chip player they are desperately pursuing is linebacker Wesley Bissainthe. Bissainthe hails from Miami Central high school (home of FSU great Dalvin Cook) and is visiting the Noles for his official visit this weekend.

Among the many things, the recruit does while on campus is take pictures in FSU uniforms and take campus tours. However, a picture became available on Twitter with Bissainthe throwing down the U, just like Marvin Jones Jr. did a few days ago.

What The Significance?

I’m sure Miami fans will argue FSU coaches asked him to do the pose in his pictures. If that’s true, Bissainthe still has the option not to do so, right? Whether FSU coaches are asking these players to strike the pose or not, I think it’s a great move.

Not only does it help build excitement between the rivalry, but it also gives the perception FSU is the cool place to be again with South Florida players. Most folks that follow recruiting expect Bissainthe to commit to Miami if he doesn’t choose the Noles.

It would be a huge victory on the recruiting trail for Mike Norvell and the coaching staff. The Noles already have one of the most underrated wide receivers from South Florida committed in Devaughn Mortimer. They are in heavy pursuit of former FSU commit Nyjalik Kelly, who is teammates with Mortimer.

Bissainthe could have just been doing the pose for fun? However, he’s one of the top targets on the recruiting board, and we’ll take any edge we can get against the competition.
