FSU football might be without its highest-rated signee for the second consecutive year unless things change.

Four-star Demorie Tate signed with FSU football as the highest-rated recruit in the 2020 class but didn’t get on the field due to taking an academic redshirt.

Destyn Hill, the highest-rated signee of the 2021 recruiting class, has not been able to join the program, and it’s not clear when he’ll be able to enroll at FSU.

FSU athletics issued a statement to the Tallahassee Democrat stating his enrollment would be delayed due to a personal matter.

I know many fans wonder what type of impact that will have on the team if he’s not able to enroll before classes begin in the fall.

Hill is a dynamic player at a position that lacks depth and needs playmakers. Hill could also provide a spark on special teams at punt returner, which is an area that had little production last season.

I wrote a few weeks ago about what type of impact Destyn Hill could have if he were to get to Tallahassee this summer. I don’t want to sound like it’s not a big deal, because it is from a macro point of view.

However, regarding the impact on the season, the fact Hill wasn’t able to enroll early decreased my expectations significantly from the consensus.

The wide receiver position does not feature a lot of production from freshmen nationally, especially not from freshmen, who are not enrolled for spring practice. Would it be better for the team if Hill were able to enroll this fall?

Absolutely, but it’s not like I would expect Hill to haul in 35 receptions for 600 yards and seven touchdowns.
