The sentiment of most is FSU football has one scholarship left for the 2021 recruiting cycle. That scholarship would have gone to offensive lineman Cain Madden had he not committed to Notre Dame.

However, that wasn’t the case, and the coaching staff is looking to use that scholarship for a position of need.

Offensive lineman, defensive end, and wide receiver would all be areas the Noles could use help in the upcoming season.

There’s a lack of depth and experience at each of those spots, and an interesting prospect earned an offer from the Noles Sunday afternoon. Marcus Cushnie entered the transfer portal on May 26.

Marcus Cushnie earned the FSU offer after working out for the coaching staff while visiting over the weekend.

Cushnie graduated summa cum laude from Alabama A&M and has two years of eligibility left after leading the team with seven sacks in four games this spring.

Cushnie had 7.5 tackles for loss and two more quarterback hurries. Cushnie had 39 tackles in 12 games in 2019, finishing with seven sacks, eight QB hurries, and two forced fumbles.

It looks as though he was going to blow his freshmen numbers out of the water had they played 12 games like normal. Cushnie is put together well physically and looks like a guy you want getting off the bus first.

Thoughts

It looks like FSU is the first P5 school to offer him since he entered the transfer portal.

Cushnie told Noles247 FSU was his dream school growing up in Broward County, Florida. Is the offer committable?

If so, I wonder if we’ll see Cushnie make the commitment announcement soon? If not, I wonder if the coaching staff wants him to join as a preferred walk-on with a chance to earn a scholarship later? There is another offensive tackle in the portal from Oklahoma the Noles may be interested. How that shakes out could affect what Cushnie does.

I think Cushnie could help the Noles at defensive end as he’s a college-ready body that’s been productive in college. Not only that, he has two years of eligibility left, which is a bonus. The Noles have already addressed the position once through the transfer portal with Jermaine Johnson. We’ll see how the situation with Marcus Cushine shakes out soon enough.
