FSU football surprised a lot of folks when four-star quarterback AJ Duffy announced he was committing to the Noles Wednesday evening.

The FSU coaching staff understands they need big-time playmakers in this 2022 recruiting cycle.

One of those targets has been the high school teammate of Duffy, five-star defensive back Kamari Wilson.

The Noles already have two five-star defensive backs committed in Travis Hunter and Sam McCall. Could Wilson find a spot in the class?

Wilson announced his top six list of schools via his Twitter account Friday afternoon:

Mike Norvell and the coaching staff offered Wilson in March 2020 shortly after the pandemic shut everything down. Wilson holds 33 offers, and every major program would take him as a commit on the spot.

Wilson lists as the No. 24 player overall, No. 1 safety, and No. 5 player in Florida. He checks in at 6′ 1″ and 195 pounds with 100 percent (two votes) 247 Crystal Ball predictions going to Georgia with a medium confidence level.

Those two predictions came in roughly two weeks ago, including one from Steve Wiltfong, who’s usually dependable and accurate.

I’d say the FSU’s chances are slim at this point, but at least they are in the conversation with a lot of great programs vying for his commitment. Maybe the addition of AJ Duffy could give the Noles some traction moving forward?

Travis Hunter and Kamari Wilson have a relationship, and I know Hunter has been working on getting him to Tallahassee as well.

It’ll be interesting to see how things move once the NCAA recruiting dead period ends on June 1. Many players are setting up official visits, and it could be special if the Noles could get him on campus with both Duffy and Hunter there at the same time.

A secondary of Hunter, McCall, and Hunter in one recruiting class? Those are the types of players that can change the trajectory of a program quickly.
