It’s the age-old question. Is the FSU football offense getting better, or has the FSU football defense not improved since last year?

It sounds like both units have made improvements, according to Mike Norvell and Kenny Dillingham, when they spoke with the media after Saturday’s scrimmage.

Mike Norvell said the offense scored on their first four possessions, but the defense had success in short-yardage situations.

It sounded like there were a lot of both and forth momentum swings. However, it was Dillingham’s press conference that got me excited about the Nole offense. The entire video is below:

Both Dillingham and Norvell are typically candid in their answers, and it sounds like the FSU offense is making significant improvements.

The quarterback position in particular. Both coaches talk glowingly about the progress of Jordan Travis as a passer. The way Dillingham explained the progress of Travis in the clip makes a lot of sense.

It sounds like McKenzie Milton is becoming more comfortable in the offense, and Tate Rodemaker made some plays.

One thing that excited me the most was Dillingham saying the wide receivers won their routes off the line of scrimmage. That was a rarity last year as the receivers struggled to create separation in their routes. However, young receivers are winning 1on1’s and Dillingham said that’s the expectation at FSU. The offense is built for playmakers to win 1on1 battles.

I’ll take better quarterback play, better wide receiver play, coupled with a running back’s group I think will be good. If the offensive line can be decent, there’s no reason the offense can’t look much improved compared to last season.

That’s my expectation, and it’s the expectation of coaches now that they are getting a spring camp. Now it’s all about finding the consistency of execution, along with playing smart situational football without leaving points on the field when in scoring position.
