The FSU football Free Scouting University mantra seems to be taking hold with this coaching staff.

One thing I like about this coaching staff is they are not afraid to offer a player that doesn’t have a recruiting ranking.

It’s funny, often FSU will be one of the first to offer a player, and then a ton of offers from other big-time schools will come afterward.

The latest player to receive an FSU offer is 2022 tight end Jerrale Powers from Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Texas.

Powers announced the offer on his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon:

Powers checks in at 6’4” and 225 pounds with six offers from FSU, Colorado, UConn, Oregon State, Arkansas, and Kansas.

Powers doesn’t have a composite ranking, but Rivals rates him as a three-star. Powers finished the 2020 season with nine receptions for 118 yards and one touchdown. The Noles have offered 20 tight ends in the 2022 cycle and will likely take two commitments with Camren McDonald and Jordan Wilson likely leaving after the 2021 season.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them lose one more to attrition. Powers looks to have an athletic frame that can add 25 more pounds to be more effective with in-line blocking at the college level.

Most of his short highlight video shows him lining up as a wide receiver, and he does a solid job of catching the ball with his hands and getting upfield for yardage.

There was one play that showed him blocking a defensive back and showing some physicality. Powers looks like he’d be a Chris Thomsen special as Thomsen has recruiting ties to the Longhorn State.

There are no 247 Crystal Ball Predictions at this time. It’ll be interesting to see how his recruitment develops with FSU football. They were able to snag Hunter Washington from that state in the last recruiting cycle, and he could play a role in getting Powers to FSU.
