The 2022 recruiting cycle is important for FSU football. The last two classes under Mike Norvell should help raise the floor, but this class could bring in the difference-makers needed to get back to elite status.

The Noles look to establish a presence in South Florida similar to the peak of the Jimbo Fisher era. Another piece to that puzzle fit Saturday when three-star wide receiver Devaughn Mortimer committed to the Noles.

Mortimer received his FSU offer less than a week ago, and the teammate of current FSU commit Nyjalik Kelly didn’t want to wait any longer before securing his spot in one of the best-recruiting classes in the nation.

He announced his decision via his Twitter account:

Mortimer checks in at 5’11” and 160 pounds with 11 offers from FSU, Arizona State, Kentucky, Maryland, Penn State, Syracuse, Texas A&M, West Virginia, and other smaller schools.

Mortimer is considered the No. 604 player nationally, No. 76 wide receiver, and No. 82 player in Florida.

Mortimer a speedster with a verified 100-meter of 10.8 less than a month ago with playmaking ability in the punt return game is shown as well.

Mortimer gives the Noles seven commits for the 2022 recruiting cycle, good for ninth overall and No. 1 in the ACC.

Highlights

Mortimer’s highlights remind me of some South Florida players that go to smaller schools and put up ridiculous stats against the big boys. His speed is noticeable in the first few seconds of the video and his punt return ability is highlighted as well.

I also like the confidence he plays with on the field, as that’s an area FSU wide receivers haven’t had in quite some time. He’s a natural hand catcher, plucking the ball out of the air effortlessly in almost every clip.

I like this commit a lot and should be help get some momentum in South Florida for the Noles.
