Offensive Tackle

FSU football received some great news when Devontay Love-Taylor announced he would be returning for the 2021 season.

Love-Taylor was playing tackle for the Noles when he was lost for the season due to injury. He could play tackle again in 2021, but he’s more natural at the guard position.

If the Noles could sign a quality offensive tackle, that means Love-Taylor could play the guard position, and the offensive line would be upgraded over the last couple of years.

It would also allow some younger players time to develop and be ready to contribute in 2022 and beyond.

The offensive line looked improved in 2020. Jordan Travis’s mobility was a factor in the improvement, but the line afforded James Blackman time to throw the ball early in the season when he was the starter as well.

Another metric that points towards improvement is the running game. The Noles had three running backs that averaged 4.95 yards per carry or higher in 2020.

That’s the same average per carry Cam Akers had in 2019. The Noles also saw improvement in yards gained before contact compared to previous years.

The offensive line is the straw that stirs the cup for the FSU offense. If they can get quality a tackle, the FSU offense could be a force to be reckoned with better quarterback play in 2021.
