Thoughts

After a wild ending to the 2019-2020 ACC basketball season, the FSU Basketball team finally has a schedule for the upcoming season. With the season just over two weeks away, I wanted to give my thoughts on the schedule and how I think it will play out!

Looking at the non-conference opponents above only two schools stick out that this New Blood Florida State team might have difficulties with – Indiana and Florida. Usually, a team’s non-conference schedule to begin a season is a sort of warm-up for conference play, and that is exactly what we have here. Gardner Webb, North Florida, and UCF should not give the ‘Noles any problems to start the season.

Now, back to the two teams that have the potential to give the boys some issues early on, Florida and Indiana. First, let’s look at the positive, with both games played in the Tuck, where FSU owns one of the best win percentages in the past five years.

For Indiana, they will be without Senior G Devonte Green, who lit up the ‘Noles last year in Bloomington, posting 30 points, six rebounds, and three assists while shooting 67% from the field and 71% from three. That is a ton of production to make up against an FSU basketball squad who is a defensive-minded team first.

For Florida, this will be an entirely different looking team – aside from their players, that is. Florida HC Mike White has made it known the Gators will be moving to a more uptempo and pressing type of play rather than the slow it down and try and dissect the defense they have played up to this point in his tenure. This factor makes Florida scary, even if they didn’t start in the AP top 25, because they bring back a wealth of experience and have also added pieces through the transfer portal.
